Spider-Man returns to the set and rocks his brand new suit. Sony Pictures released the above teaser video, marking the start of production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Tom Holland revealing his new outfit for the first time.
In the 22-second clip, Holland appears to be jogging inside the hangar, with his outline gradually being announced as the doors open and a light flood blowing. So he leaves – perhaps to film his next scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Suits paying homage to past Spideys
The new outfit draws clear inspiration from the suits seen in several important upgrades rather than in the final scenes of the home. The raised webbing reminds me of Toby Maguire’s suit, but the black streamlined spider emblem nods to Andrew Garfield’s version. It is an impressive homage to his multiverse teammate, and a clear signal that Dutch Peter Parker is moving forward with his own suit and story.
Return to basics: More “old-fashioned” Spider-Man’s Netherlands
Speaking by flipping the wig before filming, Holland shared his excitement for the new chapter, highlighting a major change in how the new day is being created.
“I’m clearly over the moon and I’m very excited,” Holland said. “Playing Spider-Man is like wandering around with an old mate.”
He also considered the unique challenge of filming how to get home during the pandemic. “We were really limited to what we could do in our last film because of Covid. We filmed the entire film on stage.”
This time we’re going to take a different approach. “Now we’re going to lean on a really old-fashioned filmmaking and shoot in real places, so we’re starting out in Glasgow and we’re going to use the city of Glasgow to build this huge set piece.”
“You’ll want to make another (homecoming)…it’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air,” Holland added. “I think fans are trying to get past the moon with what we’re putting together.”
Peter Parker’s “a new start”
The Netherlands also spoke at Cinema Con earlier this year, and an emotional arc began to unfold.
“We know that at the end of the house where Peter Parker sacrificed his identity to save the people he loves the most in the world, we left you a massive cliffhanger,” he said. “So, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. That’s exactly what it is.”
Production, release dates, talent recovery
Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cletton, who previously directed the legend of Marvel’s Shanch and Tenring. This script is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. He also wrote three previous Spider-Man films in the Netherlands (although he was one of six credit authors in Homecoming). Producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige are back.
Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, while Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas are taking part in private roles. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and John Bernsal’s “Punisher” will also appear.
The film is scheduled to be released in Australia on July 30, 2026 and in the US on July 31, 2026.
High expectations for the next chapter of Spidey
The new Day has high hopes as the previous trilogy has ended around US$3.9 billion worldwide, but with a grounded approach, practical set and fresh creative direction, Dutch’s next web sling adventure may sway in a new and exciting direction.
