The Power Universe is rewinding the clock again, but this time Ghost and Tommy step into the spotlight.
Starz officially ordered Power: Origins. This is the fifth series in the ever-growing crime drama franchise, and the second prequel following Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The new installments follow the younger versions of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan.
The rise of Ghost and Tommy
Powers on the Streets of New York City: Origins promises to explore how Ghost and Tommy built their crime empire from scratch. According to the official logline, the series “has a fun and wild exploration of a new time in the power franchise, highlighting the unlimited boldness of a rising young man who has decided to become a game legend.”
The lead roll cast has not yet been announced. However, Mekai Curtis returns as a young Canaan Stark and continues his run from the development of Canaan, closing in with his fifth and final season in 2026. Though Starts has not confirmed Moore’s involvement at this stage, given that Shamek Moore’s character wind was recently featured on the show.
A familiar face behind the scenes
A veteran of the franchise, a creator who nurtures Canaan, Saschapen will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer. In a statement, Penn said: “We are excited to continue exploring the story of the origins of the father of the founder of the Power Universe. The backstory of Ghost and Tommy has fueled years of charm and speculation among fans.
Kathryn Busby, president of Starz’s original programming, added: “Our fans have been hoping for stories of Ghost and Tommy’s origins since we first came to power, and with the launch of this series, we’re offering it in a great way.”
The power continues to expand
Power: Origins is the first season produced by Lionsgate Television and runs in 18 episodes. Executive producers include franchise creators Courtney A. Kemp (end of episode), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (through G-Unit Films and TV), Mark Canton (Canton Entertainment), Chris Serak and Pete Chatmon.
This marks the sixth Power Series, where Powerbook IV: Force will air its third and final seasons later this year, and Power: Legacy (working title) under development.
Although the premier date for Power: Origins has not been announced, NYC streets could soon be reflected in familiar ambitions when ready for production.
