“Finish him!”: Carl Urban’s Johnny Cage headline gory ‘Mortal Kombat II’ trailer

The battle continues formally. The first trailer for Mortal Kombat II has arrived. This time it’s about tournaments. Watch the Red Band trailer above and read everything you know about the brutal follow-up.

The tournament begins

After teasing the legendary Johnny Cage at the end of the 2021 reboot, Mortal Kombat II finally throws him into the bloody spotlight. Set in the aftermath of the first film, the sequel introduces the right mortar combat tournament in which Earth Defenders face the disappearance at the hands of Xiao Khan and the dark forces of Outworld.

Aussie director Simon McCoyd features fighters such as Lewis Tunn’s Cole Young, Jessica McNamee’s Sonya Blade, Mechado Brooks’s Jacks, Rudy Lynn’s Ryu Kang, and Scorpion’s Yoko Sanada. Kitana, played by Jade’s Adeline Rudolph, played by Tati Gabrielle, and Kitana, played by Sorcerer Quan Chi, played by Damon Herriman (Herriman was the voice of Cabal in the previous film).

Johnny Cage enters the arena

The Johnny Cage of Urban is more than just a comic relief. He is in the front and center this time. Described as a washed-down action star ignoring his martial arts skills, Cage is reluctantly drawn into the tournament at his lowest point. “We started him at a very low point… And when I read the script, I felt it was just such a compelling, interesting, dynamic journey,” Urban told IGN.

You can also get a glimpse of Cage trading frivolous jokes with Sonya Blade. This nods as fans of the game recognize it as the beginning of something bigger.

A familiar area, larger scale

The trailer teases a big scale-up from the first film, featuring brutal action sequences, familiar finishing moves, and settings that are drawn directly from the game. Edenia, the domain of Kitana, is now a major part of the matter, wiping out vision and promising to expand lore.

Much of the sequel was filmed on IMAX, and director McQuoid suggested that fans would be treated to “Little Gems,” which is exclusive to this format. “We’ve got some new characters coming in… And when you have a character like Shao Kahn, you have to swing for the fence,” he said in an IGN report.

Next chapter in the Fan Five Light franchise

Based on the legendary video game series created by Edboon and John Tobias, Mortal Kombat II is written by Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), with McQuoid being director again. Producers include James Wang, Todd Garner and E. Includes Bennett Walsh.

Following the surprising success of the 2021 film, which became HBO Max’s biggest film launch at the time, Warner Bros. has more room to move around sequels, what appears to be an expanded battle, characters and a bigger commitment to world-building for its franchise.

When and where to watch Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat II will attack Australian cinemas on October 23rd and US cinemas on October 24th.
