Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell “Barbie” | Warner Bros.
Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell decide they are disposable and become targets for the back.
The film follows the pair as they try to leave their criminal life behind, but is hunted by a former boss. It’s a set up of a buddy with a built-in genocide, a kind of high conceptual premise that appears to have been made to match the instincts of both stars’ comedy, with connections to the material adjacent to the action.
As first reported in Deadline, Tough Guys was written to the specifications by Workin’Moms Writer-Producer Daniel Gold. Gosling produces alongside Jesse Henderson under his general admission banner, while Ferrell produces alongside Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe are participating as executive producers of the underground. The director has not been announced yet.
This marks the first feature pairing as a lead, but Gosling and Ferrell have previously shared Screen Time. He is also marked as a recurring character in Barbie and in Jimmy Kimmel Live’s absurd “Knife Guy” sketches that escalated from a mess of kitchen products to a steak-centric Heimrich gag.
As fans have already pointed out, tough guys continue to trend titles. Gosling starred in Nice Guy and the Man of Autumn, while Ferrell brought mayhem for others. At this point, it’s essentially a spirit franchise.
Gosling line up in Project Hale Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, but Ferrell has multiple projects on the Slate.

The production timeline has not been revealed, but it’s safe to expect blood, jokes, and perhaps another branding-related Heimrich incident, as Gosling and Ferrell surround the Hitman comedy.
