Tom Holland is ready to go back to Spider-Man’s suit, but this time he’s swapping cobblestone streets for digital backgrounds.
In a new interview with Flip Your Wig, the 29-year-old actor will be opened up about returning to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and promises a change in the way he creates the franchise.
Use a practical set to go back to a more grounded approach
“I’m clearly over the moon and I’m very excited,” Holland said. “Playing Spider-Man is like wandering around with an old mate.”
Looking back at the limitations on filming the hall, this was significantly limited due to Covid. The Netherlands explained: “We were really limited to what we could do in our last film for Covid.
This time, things have changed. “Now we’re going to lean on a really old-fashioned filmmaking and shoot in real places, so we’re starting out in Glasgow and we’re going to use the city of Glasgow to build this huge set piece.”
That change in approach makes him feel revitalized. “I’d like to (return home) again,” he said. “It took me so long that I did it, so it’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air. I think the fans are over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
Peter Parker’s new chapter
The Netherlands previously spoke about a brand new day at Cinema Con, calling it a “new start,” and pointing to an emotional cliffhanger at the end of the Norway home.
“We know that at the end of the house where Peter Parker sacrificed his identity to save the people he loves the most in the world, we left you a massive cliffhanger,” he said. “So, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. That’s exactly what it is.”
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings) has longtime Spider-Man producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige returned to take over their duties. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to re-enact their roles as MJ and Ned, but Jon Bernthal joins as Punisher. Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas also take on private roles.
Release and expectations
Spider-Man: A new day is scheduled to open at US cinemas on July 31st, 2026.
It follows the hiber set by his predecessor. Returning to Japan earned USD 880 million, far from home to USD 1.13 billion, and he couldn’t return home.
While details of the plot remain on rap for now, between the changing director’s vision, grounded production style, and storylines picking up from one of the MCU’s most emotional endings, a brand new new day may aim for more than just another superhero spectacle.
