HBO’s new Harry Potter series has officially begun production. And with the announcement, it is the first appropriate look at the new boy who lived in it.
In the newly released image, young actor Dominic McLaughlin is reading “Season 1, Episode 1” wearing his outfit like Harry Potter, dressed in the familiar Hogwarts robe and signature round specs. Now, as the camera is rolling at Warner Bros. Studio Revelden in the UK, the next chapter in the Magic World is no longer a distant spell, and it’s happening.

New generations step into Hogwarts
McLaughlin is leading a new heroes trio (pictured in the photo), joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastor Stout as Ron Weasley. The three were selected from over 30,000 candidates last year after a wide range of casting calls.
Participants in the newly announced cast include Rory Wilmott as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Darthley, Louise Breeley of Madame Fooch and Anton Lesser as Ollivander. These fresh faces stand alongside previously announced cast members, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTor as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Ecied as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
The expanded ensemble includes Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Rocks Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Ely as Sheemus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Musa, Bell the Raven Fudge as Raven Fudge as Raven Asai Brown, Professor Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as complaining caretakers Argus Filch.

Behind the camera: Major League Creative Team
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner (his dark material, inheritance) is at the helm, and Emmy-winning Mark My Rod (Game of Thrones, Menu) directs multiple episodes. Both also serve as executive producers, along with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley Letts and David Heyman.
There are also serious stacked teams working behind the scenes. Adriano Goldman is involved in film shoots, Kate Hall is heading the hair and make-up, and Holly Waddington leads the costumes division. Creature effects, stunts, and VFX are in the hands of veteran professionals, including John Nolan and Alexis Weisblott.
When the magic returns
HBO set up a series that debuted in 2027 on both HBO and HBO MAX. For markets such as Germany, Italy and the UK, each book will be adopted in the full season, with production in the first chapter expected to cover the philosopher’s stone.
It’s been nearly 14 years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Part 2 closes the original Saga movie book. Now there’s a fresh take on moving, as a new cast and creative team bring the magical world back to life for longtime fans and curious newcomers. My fingers crossed it!
