Disney’s 20th century studio and Sean Levy’s 21 rap are back in the museum this time with a whole new cast of characters.
The Hit Family Franchise has a fresh chapter courtesy of 20th century studios and Sean Levy’s 21 rap entertainment. Screenwriter Tripper Clancy (Stuber, Die Hart) was tapped to write a new story featuring original characters and fresh adventures within the walls of an iconic museum.
The new era of museums
As reported in Deadline, the new installments are currently in development, indicating a transition from the original trilogy, Larry Daley, played by Ben Stiller. Instead, the film takes the audience on a fresh journey with a new group of museum residents. Levy, who directed and produced the original film, has returned to produce alongside Dan Levine. Emily Morris will oversee the project on 21 laps.
Clancy is not a stranger in the 21-lap world, and previously worked with Netflix’s I Am All Not Old on the Bolivar series under development. His script credits include entries for both Dave Bautista & Kumail Nanjiani Action-Comedy Stuber and Kevin Hart’s Die Hart franchise.
Franchise history
The evening at the museum franchise began in 2006 with an original film. This is a loose adaptation of a 1993 children’s book. Following his struggling father doing night security work at the American Museum of Natural History, he discovered that the display is brought to life thanks to a magical Egyptian tablet.
The first three films – Night at the Museum (2006), Battle of the Smithsonian (2009), Secrets of the Tomb (2014) – have surpassed US$1.3 billion worldwide, making it one of the most successful family franchises of the 21st century. The ensemble cast throughout the series includes Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Rami Marek, Amy Adams and Dunstevens.
In 2022, Levi produced a Disney+ Animation spin-off night at the museum. Kamunra rose again.
What’s next for 21 lap?
The Revival rides 21 laps high from the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, directed by Levi. The company is also behind the upcoming final season of Stranger Things, and recently announced the adaptation of Blanks and will not lie to Netflix along with the Madonna Limited series. As director, Levi’s next feature will feature Star Wars: Starfighter Ryan Gosling, and will begin theatrical release in May 2027.
No new evening release windows have been announced at museum movies. With this new thing coming together, we will keep you up to date.
