A few years later, the toxic Avenger has returned to its official state. The much-anticipated remake of the 1984 Troma Cult Classic dropped a complete Red Band Trailer, giving fans the first uncensored look of the radioactive genocide that ultimately heads to the cinemas. A violent and grotesque rethink of the cult icon
Peter Dinklage stars as Winston Goose, a meek custodian who leads to terminal illness and a greedy employer’s fateful encounter with a toxic waste massive vat. result? A horrifying change into a toxic Avenger – a transformed anti-hero who takes violent revenge against corporate corruption while trying to protect his son and his community.
As you can imagine, Gore is always dialed. The trailer is packed with non-PC madness, from torn limbs to being pounded to being jawed to an explosive head. Dinklage voices the newly mutated Toxy, and the body’s performance obligation goes to Luisa Guerreiro under the grotesque prosthesis.
The film boasts a strong supporting cast. Kevin Bacon plays the villain industrialist Bob Garbinger, with Elijah Wood transforming into a crazy Fritz, while Taylor Page Starr will be starring as vigilante journalist JJ Doherty. Jacob Tremblay, Jane Levy, Julia Davis and Blair himself rounded out the cast.
From filming in 2021 to the theatrical release in 2025
After being filmed in 2021, Macon Blair’s The Take the Toxic Avenger held its world premiere at the 2023 Fantastic Fest, celebrating its disorderly tone and practical effect. Blair – Most famous for his directorial debut, I am not at home any more in this world. He also wrote and directed the reboot as a longtime collaborator for Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Royen, Green Room). Marking his second feature behind the camera, he dives directly into the humic cartoonish horror with clear affection for the original DIY spirit.
Despite early topics, the film struggled to secure distribution due to its content. That changed in early 2025 when the iconic events of Cineverse and theatre partners won US rights. Umbrella entertainment will be distributed in Australia.
The Toxic Avenger will begin in Australian cinemas on August 28th and in the US on August 29th.
