Yasmin Naghavi, the first female partner of Media Arts Lawyers, set out to launch Artis Causa, her own specialized media and entertainment law firm.

Nagavi has worked as a Media Arts lawyer for 15 years and represents figures such as Anderen, Matt Preston, Julia Morris, Guymontgomery, Becky Lucas and Urzilla Carlson.

Other clients include YouTube channels such as Bounce Patrol and Eyestroel, graphics and motion design studios, illustrators, visual artists, authors, photographers, and game/app developers.

Nagavi also works for the Victoria Committee of Writers and has never contributed to the Australian Arts Law Centre as a Pro Bono lawyer.

Artis Causa is based in Melbourne, and its name (Latin for “for art”) reflects its core spirit. Specialties include contracts, employment law, reputation and crisis management, corporate advice and intellectual property.

Nagabi’s decision to establish Artis Causa comes from his desire to support an industry where creativity and commercial achievements are intertwined.

“Being very professional means that we understand not only the law, but also the unique challenges of our clients and theirs,” she said.

“Whether the comedian or influencer has talent, the honor and loss for creators, takedown strategies, or designer IP and ownership structure.

“Ultimately, we speak the same language as the people we represent, and are good at providing insight into how creative businesses actually work.

“Our focus is on creating professionals respecting their work, protecting their values and ensuring that their business is set for success.”

Joining Naghavi at Artis Causa is Marian Liwanen, a longtime colleague and creative industry lawyer, and two experienced paralegals, one with a background in television production and the other has a hands-on experience on major YouTube channels.
