First “Frankenstein” trailer: Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi Starr are stars in Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited adaptation

Netflix has announced the official teaser trailer for Frankenstein, a long-standing passion project of Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. The teaser drops on Netflix’s Tudum 2025: The Live Event, offering a moody first look at the director’s ambitious take on Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic novel. See the above and see more details

“Some of what I say to you are true,” says Oscar Isaac in the trailer, playing the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein. “Some of them aren’t. But it’s all true.” A tone setter worthy of a story that blurs the line between science, mythology and madness.

Del Toro has dreamed of adapting Frankenstein since he was a child. The filmmakers explored monsters throughout his career, from Hellboy to the labyrinth of bread to the shape of water, indicating his first full-scale return to the material of Sherry Sauce. In a 2010 interview, Derlo shares a deep connection to the novel, referring to the creature’s unforgettable lines.

Its duality – love and fear, beauty and fear – pulsate throughout the teaser. Australian actor Jacob Elordi (Saltburn, Euphoria) is given a glimpse of his delicate, terrifying presence with a brief flash of light that bullies. Mia Goss, who is not a stranger in horror, also appears in the ensemble, alongside Felix Camera, David Bradley, Christophe Waltz, and Charles Dance.

Dello Toro fans find visual callbacks through crumbling stairs, fiery illusions and creepy elegance. This was the greatest homage to his own filmography, and is now filtered through the lens of Shelley’s 1818 story. As Netflix’s Tudum site points out, this image evokes everything from Crimson Peak to Pinocchio, and promises something new and unforgettable.

The director has long been open about the profound impact the book had on his life. “The most important figure from the English heritage is incredibly for me, a teenager named Mary Shelley, who remains an important figure in my life as if she were family,” Del Toro embraces his BAFTA victory in the form of water in 2018, “And when I’m giving her dreams, when I’m thinking about dreaming, when I give, when I want to give up, when I want to give up, when I want to give up,

Apart from having del Toro as director, writer, and producer, the film’s behind-the-scenes talent also includes cinematographer Dan Laustsen (The Shape of Water, John Wick: Chapter 4), composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The King’s Speech), editor Evan Schiff (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), and production designer Tamara Deverell (Nightmare Alley), among others.

Frankenstein will arrive on Netflix this November. I hope the film also gets the theatre windows – even if it’s a small one.
