The official teaser trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has arrived. It gives John Cena’s comeback as a chaotic anti-hero with a charming look and reveals how the series fits into the development DC universe of James Gunn. Look up.
New season, new purpose
Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith, has returned with a distorted sense of justice in helmets, weapons and signatures. However, Season 2 brings a twist. This time he struggles with personal calculations and exploring meaning beyond bloodshed. As Logline states, Peacemaker “continues to kick the evil temptation of his in-laws with a false quest for peace at any cost, reconciliating his new sense of purpose and his past.”
The trailer shows us more of the messy, explosive tones that made Season 1 a hit while leaning towards this identity crisis. It also ends with an appetizing final moment. It’s a diverse twist that discovers that P-Semi is pointing his gun at another version of himself.
DCU crossover and continuity fixes
One of the most notable and obvious things is to include a new Justice League lineup. The trailer features a Peacemaker awkwardly auditioning spots in front of Maxwell Road (Shaungan), Hawk Girl (Isabella Merced), and Gei Gardner (Nathan Fillion). A character from the Superman Cancer movie. It’s a clever way to fold the characters into the wider DCU, suggesting this season will serve as a sort of narrative bridge between Cancer’s DCEU-era project and the rebooted universe he’s currently overseeing.
As Gunn himself was previously teased, the show addresses the continuity question left by Justice League cameo in season 1. This season, it seems that Peace will be playing a role in rewriting events, merging timelines and making clear how the DCU is taking shape, whether it is fully embraced by multi-universe or not.
Gunn returns to write all eight episodes and directs three, including the premiere. Speaking to IGN earlier this year, Gunn reminded his fans not to get too caught up in Canon’s argument. “Hopefully, they care about those stories, characters, actors, performers, animators, so there’s authenticity and truth in those stories,” he said. “But it’s not real.” That flexible thinking might be what allows Peacemaker to thrive – first by focusing on the characters, Chaos’ second and perhaps the logistics of the shared universe.
A familiar face (and some new faces)
Returning to cast members, Daniel Brooks will be included as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma will be included as vigilantes, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt and Steve Age as Econos. New cast members joining the explosive chaos include Frank Grillo, including Rick Flag Sr., David Denman, Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows.
Grillo’s flags are shaped into becoming a major antagonist, driven by the loss of his son Rick Flag Jr. in the Suicide Squad. Now head of Argus, he has both resources and revenge to make P-Semy’s life a hellish.
