The Nintendo Switch 2 expects two shortfalls in Japan as interest on pre-orders exceeds availability

Pre-orders will remain available in Australia for the Nintendo Switch 2, but in Japan it appears that there will be a shortage at the time of release as the number of people registering in the lottery for pre-orders.

The lottery awards a selected number of loyal Nintendo fans with the ability to pre-order the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 to fight scalping. 2.2 million people have applied for pre-orders, with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa warning that “slight numbers” must be missed.

“We have procured a number of components ahead of time and are moving into production to provide the Nintendo Switch 2 to everyone,” read the statement.

“On April 2nd, we announced details about the Nintendo Switch 2 and began accepting applications for lottery sales at the My Nintendo Store. As a result, we received applications from an astounding 2.2 million people in Japan alone.”

“However, this is far beyond our previous expectations, well above the number of Nintendo Switch 2 units that can be delivered from my Nintendo on June 5th. As a result, we hope that a considerable number of customers will not be selected in the announcement of tomorrow’s lottery on April 24th.”

For Japanese Nintendo fans looking to get an upgraded console, news about the news is probably a very disappointing news.

There was much attention in the US, where tariffs delay planned booking dates, and it went live within the next 24 hours. The units produced in Vietnam are said to have been allocated to the US market to impose tariffs on Chinese imports, which may complicate console delivery around the world.

For those eagerly waiting for a Japanese console, the only silver lining is that those who are not selected in the first round of the lottery will be automatically entered in the next round. Still, Furukawa warned that sufficient units are not available yet.

Fingers across Nintendo can open up more production to allow the console to get it!
