National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) unveiled a new online collection, focusing on Australian music television, from the 1960s to the 2000s.
Available via the NFSA’s digital platform, the collection includes footage from past television programmes, interviews from leading international artists, and early careers of famous Australian music icons.
Among the highlights are early performances of Kylie and Danny Minogue and interviews with Red Hot Chili Pepper’s House of Hits.
Meagan Loader, chief curator of the NFSA, said the collection was intended to celebrate “a time of fighting ahead of time when music television was the heartbeat of pop culture.”
“The collection explores music television as a cultural phenomenon, from the 1960s onwards, when the line between behind the scenes and broadcasts becomes blurred, from when Australia was just learning the groove,” she said.

The launch of ABC’s Angry Nightmare Go!!, hosted by Johnny Young, is the launch of the songline of John Farnham, a boomerid on ’72 Channel 9, with Friday at Zoo Seven’s Sing Sing. From 1976, “It’s over now,” John Paul Young’s live performance with “Being a Smile.”
