Sand sand may soon welcome new faces – faces as well as face dancers. Robert Pattinson is reportedly in discussions to join the cast of the upcoming Third Dune film, an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah.
Some of the major reports that will make the round. First, Deadline has an exclusive report that Denis Villeneuve is still putting the finishing touches on the script and no official offers have been made, but their sources say they have a strong interest in leading Pattinson to the franchise. The legend declined to comment.
However, the Nexus Point News report goes a step further, with Pattinson saying that it is “setting up to portray Scytale,” and that the deal is either closed or very close to closing. The outlet notes that it has been following the casting for several weeks, pointing to previous reports of the actors’ deadlines being discussed.
Scytale is a secret, genetically obsessed faction known for its shape-changing agent known as Face Dancers. In the novel, Stahl conspired with Guild Navigator Edrick, Rev. Mother Mohiam (played by Charlotte Ramling in the Villeneuve film), and Princess Illan (Florence Pugh) to break away from Paul Atreid (Timote Chalamet) and serve as the film’s lead antagonist. Jason Momoa is expected to return as Duncan Idaho. This is the character Ghola was first created by Tleilaxu.
The film, tentatively known as Dune 3, begins filming in July and is scheduled to continue until the end of the year. Returning to cast members is expected to include Chalamett, Zendaya and Florence Pue. According to Nexus Point News, the film introduces Paul and Chani’s teenage children Leto and Ganima, and introduces the revolutionary Falok.
Although it has not been officially announced, there is speculation that it is intended to release the film in December 2026.
Meanwhile, Pattinson has a full slate, recently wrapping the A24 film “Drama” in Zendaya, closing out My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring Jennifer Lawrence. He also films Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey adaptation and produces primetime for the A24 project. If he signs on to Dune 3, it could delay production of Batman-Part II until at least early 2026.
