The New Zealand comedy N00B, produced by Great Southern Television, will compete in a short story competition held at Canada’s in May.
Set in Gore in 2005, the N00B follows the high school king and party animal nikau (McScreen), who are facing social downfall after being out as a gay. Participating in other nonconformities, he discovers a new world online. The cast includes Jaxson Cook, Shervonne Grierson, James Sexton and Felicia To’a.
Created by Victoria Boult and Rachel Fawcett, the N00B was originally conceived for Tiktok and received $50,000 in 2021 on all voices in the NZ, Screen Australia and Tiktok initiatives.
It was featured by NZ Channel 3, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, after over a million views on social platforms. Great Southern TV then supported Boult and Fawcett and developed the project into a 6 x 22 minute series. Ball oversaw Josh Fritzel while Fawcett produced it.
Executive producer, great Southern Television owner Philip Smith said the Canceries selection was a major achievement for the team.
