Production has begun and cast has been confirmed – one chair at a time
Marvel Studios has begun filming Avengers: Doomsday, a 2026 ensemble film that will continue the MCU’s ongoing multiverse saga. The start of production was marked by a lengthy social media livestream that gradually revealed the cast (literally the chair chair) in a rollout of over five hours that fans speculated, theorized and sometimes moaned, as fans announced at the pace of the glacier.
The final seat was filled by Robert Downey Jr., returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor Fon Doom, a role announced in San Diego Comics Scam in 2024.
This is a “currently in production” video that Marvel dropped after the final chair was finally announced.
This is Who’s In Avengers – Confirmed Cast from Avengers: Doomsday
The confirmed ensemble spans multiple Marvel projects, past, present, future. The official announcements include:
Robert Downey Jr. – Victor Von Doom / Dr. Doom Chris Hemsworth – Thor Tom Hiddleston – Loki Anthony Mackie – Sam Wilson / Captain America Sebastian Stan – Bucky Burns / Winter Soldier Paul Rudd Yelena Belova David Harbor – Red Guardian Wyatt Russell – John Walker / US Agent Hannah John Kamen – Ghost Lewis Pullman – Sentry Simlieu – Shanchitenok Fuertamezia – Namor Pedro Pascal – Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic Vanessa Killby Johnny Storm / Human Torch Patrick Stewart – Professor Charles Xavier Ian McKellen – Magneto Alan Cumming – Nightcrawler Rebecca Romin – Mystical James Marsden – Cyclops Kelsey Glamour – Beast Channing Tatum – Gambit
Including original X-Men actors, including Stewart, McKellen, Romijn, Marsden, and others, shows a more direct crossover between the former Fox franchise and the current MCU. Tatum’s Gambit also continues to build the threads of the multiverse, which have been steadily building after its appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Who is particularly lacking? (for now)
Despite the large cast, there are some notable absenteeism. Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) have not been confirmed. There is speculation that some people, like Cumberbatch, could appear in secret wars instead. The Netherlands is currently linked to Spider-Man 4 and Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, and his availability is uncertain.
Chris Evans is another celebrity reportedly linked to the project, but we’ll still see if he’ll play another variant of Steve Rogers.
Big swing during uncertain times
Marvel is clearly positioned as the main tent pole for Avengers: The End. It also aims to formally integrate the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the wider universe. This is something fans have been waiting for since Disney’s acquisition of Fox.
That said, the film arrives when the MCU is facing mixed reactions from both critics and audiences, with some viewers citing the fatigue of the superhero and the growing narrative spread. Revert Russo Brothers to direct and anchor the story to Robert Downey Jr. It remains to be seen whether Russos can offer the same quality again in the MCU (their non-Marvel run is… bumpy, to say the least), and whether fans will accept that they have Downey Jr. this time in the form of a villain.
Avengers: The End of the World Release Date
