Deborah Mailman, Ian Booth has been reappointed to screen Australia, ACTF Board

The federal government has appointed Deborah Mailman to the Screen Australian Committee and Ian Booth to the Australian Children’s TV Board for three years.

Mailman was first appointed to the board in 2019 and became the second Indigenous to hold the position after Rachel Perkins.

With over 50 acting credits over 30 years, she has maintained a consistent on-screen presence throughout her career, with Radiance, Rabbit Proof Fence, Sapphire, Total Control, Mystery Road, Redfern, Mabo, Our Secret Life, Boy not only engulfs the universe, but also calls out Big Chew with Big Chew in Big Chew’s Big Chew. Mailman is one of four actors on Screen Australia Board, along with Marta Dusseldorp, Pallavi Sharda and Sacha Horler.

Booth is currently CEO of Black Swan State Theater Company, who has been CEO of ScreenWest for over a decade between 2007 and 2017. There, Mystery Road, Breath, Red Dog, Satellite Aircraft, Blanne Ede, Cloud Street, Surrender: Surrender: Exploring Warner, Outback Tracker, Rocky Leonard and more. Although originally a lawyer, Booth works for ABC and serves on the boards of national screen agencies Ausfilm, Awesome Arts and FTI. He has been on the ACTF Board of Directors since 2019.

Arts Minister Tony Burke said the appointee’s industry knowledge will make a strong contribution to the board.

“Deborah is our screen icon and we are excited to continue to share her experiences to support our screening industry,” he said.

“Ian’s children’s skills and background in entertainment make him an ongoing asset to the foundation’s board and the children’s television industry.”
