Netflix has released the official trailer for Season 5, the highly anticipated final chapter of the hit psychological thriller series. After leaving a bloody path across Los Angeles, a suburb of San Francisco, Joe Goldberg returned to New York City. But this time, he is a billionaire, husband and father, and yet still hides a deadly secret. Please see the trailer above for more information.
Season 5 brings Pen Bajlie back to Mooney’s bookstore and his past
In season 5, Joe Goldberg (Penbadley) appears to be living the life he always wanted. He married Kate Lockwood (Charlot Lichy) and helps run the powerful Lockwood Corporation and raises his son Henry. He also reclaimed Mooney’s bookstore, his first crime location in season 1. But the past is never behind in your universe.
For Bajri, production in the final season brought a unique nostalgia. The filming took place at Silver Cup Studio in Queens, the same sound stage where Gossip Girl was filmed. Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Badgley said: And I hadn’t really returned here apart from a day of camera testing a long time ago. โ
Sitting on the elaborate set of Joe and Kate’s bedroom, Bajulie recalls how far he and his character both came. “So it was creating new memories, but there were already some very iconic ones. I’ve only been back here on a few levels and it’s definitely very interesting.”
Season 5 brings fatal results with Joe Goldberg’s new life
It appears Joe has found stability, but fans of the Netflix series know better than they trust the look. This time, Joe is surrounded by the power plays of the Rockwood family. Kate’s twin sisters, Reagan and Maddy (both played by Anna Camp) and her half-brother Teddy (Griffin Matthews), are all fighting for control of the family empire.
“He’s very much in the Vipers hole,” executive producer Michael Foley told Tudum. “They are all the products of Tom Lockwood, the bitch’s corrupt son, Machiavelian.”
In addition to being more complicated, it has a connection with Joe’s playwright Bronte (Madeline Brewer), whom he meets in Mooney. The Brewer character represents another test of Joe. Joe is still fighting his dark instincts. Bajri praised his new co-star, saying, “I think she’s extremely talented and I’m lucky to have her this season.”
As co-star Justin W. Law explained, the season is focused on Joe’s inner conflict. “Can he be an old Joe and a new Joe? That’s a key issue for the season,” Low said. And as Joe’s public profile grows, his anonymity fades away. “Now he’s well known in New York, so social media is with him,” added Lo. “That’s something we enjoy exploring.”
Penn Bajri recalls saying goodbye to Joe Goldberg
“Like anything, it’s bittersweet. After playing Joe Goldberg for seven years, Budley is ready to put things together, says: “You’ve been in this same space, you’ve been doing this same job for just about seven years, and you love it, but you’re happy you can move on. It’s time for him to lie down, stop and put that knife down.”
Joe’s story will reach a bloody conclusion. Whether redemption or retaliation awaits him, you will know when the five-season premiere will take place on Netflix on April 24th.
