HBO has dropped the official trailer that is expected for the final US season 2. Please see the above for more details.
Radioactive fallout between Joel and Ellie
The trailer, first shown in the Southwest (SXSW), along with a panel of cast and creators, reveals abundance that things between Joel and Ellie aren’t OK. Five years have passed, but the weight of Joel’s actions at Firefly Hospital still remains, and Ellie knows. At the end of the trailer, there’s a moment of courage. “You’ve sworn,” an emotional Ellie told Joel. Of course, it was a callback to the Season One Finale, and Joel promised her that everything he told her about the Firefly was true. The lies are now fully publicized, and the rifts between them are undeniable.
The new footage shows the next wave of threats Joel and Ellie have to navigate. The well-armed militia, the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), and the cult-like faction Cerafite, will play a major role this season. The infection that many felt underutilized in Season 1 is far more present, including previously excluded elements of the game, including this time a glimpse into the airborne spores.
Stacked cast and major new players
Alongside Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, members who have returned to the cast include Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Lutina Wesley as Maria. Some of the newcomers include Caitlyn Dever as Abby (a very important character, as those familiar with the game know), and Isabella is Dina, young Magino as Jesse, Ariela Burler as Mel, Ariela Burler as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Jaffrey Lamias as Manny Lamias. Katherine O’Hara also plays the guest role.
The trailer gives us a bit of a glimpse of Abby, but it keeps her wrapped and underneath.
The final US Part II adaptation
Season 1 will continue closely with the original The Last of Us game, with Season 2 taking part II. This is a bigger, more complicated story. Showrunner Craig Mazin has already confirmed that this part of the story spans multiple seasons. In other words, adaptation is not in a hurry. Mazin also hinted that the story could expand beyond Season 3, but we still haven’t seen a place to end in the end.
Creative Team and Release Date
The series remains under the creative direction of writers and executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman. It is produced by HBO in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog. Other executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesco, Cecil O’Connor, Asaduki Zilbasch, Carter Swann and Evan Wells, with Halley Gross serving as co-producers.
The seven-episode second season premieres on Monday, April 14th, streams only on Max, with new episodes dropping every Monday. In Australia, the final US season 2 will be streamed on Max. It is scheduled to be released domestically on March 31st, replacing Binge as the previous streaming home for the series.
