Turbo Overkill brings its old school fever to a new generation of consoles

It is very clear to mention the original’s fate, which only mentions the Boomer Shooter a bit. It wasn’t the first first person shooter (FPS), but it feels like it’s most important in terms of popularity and influence.

Not only was the 2016 reboot a hit, but to this day, programmers and enthusiasts continue to find increasingly ridiculous places to run and play the original game. After all, people were able to run everything from treadmills to Minecraft insides to ultrasound machines.

The fast-paced “barrier shooter” style inspired almost every FPS game, employing a more speed-oriented arcade flare. Look at the frenzy of things like the Call of Duty franchise. Almost everyone associates the FPS genre with the fast-paced style that Doom has popularized.

But while the larger FPS genre continues to advance, expanding into all sorts of new settings and telling countless new stories, the Boomer Shooter genre does not seem to have developed at such a speed. It appears that many of the best games in this genre are remakes and spinoffs. And when you look at how narrow the definition of “boomer shooter” is, you can understand why.

So, one of my first experiences with turbo overkill was to open the controls menu and see 10 unique controls. How about that? And you’re watching a lot of your progression send your narrow corridors into your narrow corridors, destroying the Rogue AI. Again, what sounds particularly original there?

Now, if you didn’t enjoy this game, you used such points to downplay the entire package, but you’ll realize that such points are hardly important in the face of the level of rocket fuel, as you’ve killed thousands of alien-like enemies.

Don’t meditate, it will disappear

The way to get away from the overall experience of playing Turbo Overkill doesn’t get stuck with a rather simple game design. It sounds harsh to say, but overall, not as much as gamers have ever seen before.

All the beauty of it is the overkill of the turbo, and its futuristic cyberpunk setting, “Paradise,” and its bloody soundtrack, delivers precisely the satisfaction that a boomer shooter needs to give you. It’s insanity. Consider the extremely paced, zoom-out FOV, and bloody violence.

It starts in campaign mode with the fact that the hero and enforcer of the violence are named Johnny Turbo. First, equipment with twin magnums and chainsaw legs is the only possibility that destruction is.

The first thing I noticed is the speed and convulsions of the control, and while you can adjust your sensitivity to your preferences, there are convulsions that make a slight thumbstick input shoot you down in either direction. I admit I started myself up from many balconies early on. This general speed helps with constant forward movement, as fine tuning is not an option.

The weapon selection is also abundant enough to keep you busy. You start with a very simple twin magnum, but soon you start collecting everything from shotguns to twin ugis, rocket launchers, and even better, snipers teleporting inside the enemy.

There are no options to help with systematic play. It also doesn’t reload the gun (just pick up ammunition from the ground). Again, constantly propelling yourself into the enemy’s belt is the only real way to do that.

When you go, you get the option to upgrade each of these weapons. This will mainly unlock the “Alt Fire” mode for each gun. For example, Magnum has a lock-on-fire mode. This is useful for moments when you try to shake off three enemies at the same time.

And, of course, as mentioned above: the legs of the chainsaw. It is the perfect alternative weapon for your ranged gun and the perfect demonstration of a blend of turbo overkills of cyberpunk and zombie-style thrasher. Simply slide towards the enemy and the chainsaw legs will turn into pulp. It’s especially useful for the moment when you walk through the door and step into a small corridor filled with basic enemies.

I will ignite the contents of your heart

Not only does Turbo Overkill have a fantastic and violent campaign, it also comes in both endless and arcade modes.

As you can guess, endless mode can keep you busy with all the violence as long as you can take it. In other words, it’s a great way to challenge yourself beyond main story mode. There are all the bells and whistles available in the campaign, maintaining the same super-fast zoomed out FOV gameplay that makes the turbo overkill very good.

Arcade mode is also a great way to scratch that adrenaline itch, and community-made maps are just as good as the creative mind behind them. It’s not the most amazing map creator, but like everything in this game, the general feel will invigorate you with great, heartless fun.

Is there too much or too little bloodshed?

Overall, the packages offered here certainly pique your appetite. As I mentioned, it is a typical game in the Boomer Shooter genre, as far as adrenaline-filled violence is concerned.

I feel that the turbo excess is probably a step away from perfection, but there are two aspects to how I see this.

On the other hand, I feel that I had no peculiar moments I experienced in something like fate. A type that enters a random room at a random level and is completely owned by enemies. Avoid the kinds of things that you seem to hang for a healthy and dear life of 1 ounce, missiles and bullets from all kinds of enemies, avoiding the path about melee attacks.

We also feel that Turbo Overkill hasn’t fully built up these moments of friction. It has a more linear and consistent feel at the level. It’s too controlled and wise for a game focused on total insanity.

Or maybe something can be said about the overload of the turbo that moves towards adding a little more depth. Although not so much that it changes to a tactical shooter, each weapon has a specific special time to use, and I feel that choosing an upgrade will affect the overall approach of the entire room.

This version of the turbo gun feels undoubtedly destructive. But they are not unique enough, so choosing a weapon is more than seeing what has ammunition. Needless to say, the console’s weapon wheels are a bit clunky and get a little slower at some of the busy moments. As mentioned above, upgrades can also appear to be a more marker of your progress than a representation of playstyle.

Final thoughts

Ultimately, the best way to put it is: Turbo Overkill is a boomer shooter game that fully emphasizes the passionate violence at the heart of the genre, adding cyberpunkiness and style to create something worth picking up, even if you play all the boomer shooter essentials.

Play Turbo Overkill. It’s wonderfully fun and violent.
