Warner Bros Discovery will launch its Max streaming service in Australia on March 31st, using slates that include HBO, Warner Bros., DC Universe, Harry Potter, Discovery and cartoon network content.
This will add yet another player to Australia’s growing streaming platform ecosystem. This has added regular consumer prices and a new ad tier to subscriptions. Max has yet to announce local pricing.
Max hopes that popular series such as Friends, Big Bang Theory, Rick and Morty, as well as popular series such as the hit series The Last of Us, will convince the public to pay for yet another service. . (Foxtel subscribers will have access to Max on startup.)
Max is also home to such shows… Dragon House, Euphoria, Peacemaker, and new shows: Welcome Delhi and Game of Thrones spin-off Knights of the Seven Kingdom.
That launch is a blow to local rival Binge, losing content from Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), HBO and Max Originals.
JB Perrette, CEO of WBD and president of Global Streaming and Games, said globalization of Max is a top priority.
“Australia is one of our biggest new markets and represents an important opportunity to please even more fans with the incredible stories told by the iconic brand.”
Michael Brooks, general manager of WBD Australia and New Zealand, said WBD aims to maximize reach through consumer apps and distribution partnerships, including collaborations with Foxtel at launch.
