Long-term Soap’s neighbors are again in the chopping block as production company Fremantle reportedly failed to reach a new deal with Amazon.
Productions in the new episodes will halt mid-year, with the series ’40th season airing on Prime Video and Network 10 until the end of 2025.
It will be two years after Amazon decided to no longer fund the series as an international production partner for the drama behind British broadcaster Channel 5.
Following the finale featuring well-known alumni such as Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie and Jason Donovan, cameras began rolling again at Nunawading Studios in Melbourne in April 2023.
The new episodes were screened on Amazon Freevee in the UK and the US, and only on Prime Video in Canada.
Amazon has since folded the Freevee platform to offer Prime Video, and reportedly they were reluctant to continue funding SOAP.
In a statement, executive producer Jason Herbison thanked Amazon MGM Studios for bringing his neighbors to new audiences around the world.
“Audiences around the world have loved and embraced their neighbors for 40 years. We have been accustomed to the past two, including one of the UK’s top 10 titles and the first daytime Emmys to appear at the show. I am extremely proud of the great success of the year. For the outstanding daytime series of 2024,” he said.
“We value how much our fans love their neighbors and believe there will be more stories from Ramsey Street residents in the future.”
