Screen Australia Marketplace Manager Rakel Tansley shares the latest marketplace information and advice on getting the best deal for your project.

Rakel Tansley “Talk to Me”

Do you want to bring your project to market?

And research is key to a successful marketplace experience, says Rakel Tansley, Marketplace Manager at Screen Australia. Know your audience, find the right distributor or distributor, and negotiate the best terms and conditions to maximize your return. Then “come and talk to us (the Marketplace team),” Tansley advises.

In the latest episode of the Screen Australia podcast, Tansley discusses key findings on the latest post-funding international distribution of projects from 2020 to 2023. The triennial data shows continued global interest in Australian content across film, television and children’s content. Budgets and distribution conditions may have changed during this time, but the most important change for Tansley has been in the way distributors and distributors buy, and it’s all about the terms of the deal.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in pre-sales related to financing plans, especially compared to previous years (…) We also see that distributors are not necessarily contributing to financing plans,” Tansley says. Therefore, it is important to know your audience and research your market.

Throughout the episode, Tansley analyzes key terminology in financial planning and markets, the role of the Marketplace team in helping Australian producers navigate domestic and global trade, and the role published on the Screen Australia website. Describe the resources you have. She also discusses current rights trends, how to make intellectual property and derivative rights work for you, the hidden costs to be aware of when planning your finances, and the key Share your top 5 local and regional locations. In terms of sales and highest expenditures.

“There’s still a really insatiable appetite for Australian content,” Tansley reveals. “It is very important that our producers have a global perspective when creating content. (…) We have a much wider audience and our stories travel very well .”
