Even though ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is his final appearance in Sony’s Spider-Man villain trilogy, Tom Hardy still continues to play the role of his iconic symbiote character, played by Tom Holland. I really want him to fight Spider-Man.
Hardy took to the stage at New York Comic Con on Friday night to introduce his upcoming movie next week and say he’s ready to fight Spider-Man “today.”
“I want to fight Spider-Man. I want to fight him right now. I’m 100 percent happy to fight Spider-Man today. I’m not saying never,” he said. “We were specifically set up to put ‘Venom’ into film form, and that’s what we did. ‘The Last Dance’ is the final film in that trilogy, and that’s what we did. we’re really excited about it. ”
After appearing in two solo films, Hardy returns for the final time as Eddie Brock, the human half of the Venom symbiote, in The Last Dance. Teased for years, Spider-Man fans have been clamoring for a crossover, but he has yet to fight the wall-crawler.
However, there could be more symbiote-focused movies in the future. The latest Venom trailer teased Knull, the evil alien creator of the symbiote who recently appeared in Marvel Comics. In the trailer, there’s a brief shot of him sitting on a black throne with long white hair in laces, just like in the comics.
“This is just an introduction to Knull. He’s a huge, huge character, so you’re never done with him once and for all. This is just a little taster of Knull. We get to meet him. You never know what the future holds for him,” director Kelly Marcel said on stage. “Eddie and Venom’s story ends here. But as we know, there are a lot of symbiote stories in canon. There are a lot of places we want to go, but here are some easter eggs to start the journey. Maybe.”
“The Last Dance” comes immediately after 2021’s “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” According to the official logline: “Eddie and Venom are on the run. With both worlds chasing them and the Internet closing in, they are forced to make a devastating decision that ends Venom and Eddie’s Last Dance. ”
In addition to Hardy, the cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lou, Alana Ubach, and Stephen Graham.
This year also sees the release of Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the big-game hunter from the Spider-Man comics. Kraven will be the first Spider-Man spin-off to receive an R rating, after the films Venom and Morbius were rated PG-13. The cast includes Russell Crowe as Craven’s father, Ariana DeBose as his girlfriend Calypso, and Fred Hechinger as Craven. The film stars Alessandro Nivola as the villain Rhino, his brother Chameleon who is a master of disguise, and Christopher Abbott as the mercenary Foreigner.
Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter are the only films in Sony’s Spider-Man universe with release dates. The animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the final film in the dimension-jumping trilogy starring Miles Morales and a host of other wall-crawler characters, has not been released since its release was postponed. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Shang-Chi” director Destin Daniel Cretton has signed on to direct the fourth “Spider-Man” movie starring Tom Holland, but no official announcement has been made.
Holland revealed on his podcast this week that he and co-star Zendaya recently read the script for Spider-Man 4.
“We have the creativity, we have the pitches and we have the draft, which is great,” he said. “It needs work, but the writers have done a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in my heart. Zendaya and I sat down and read the book together and thought this was Sometimes I would jump up and down in my living room as if it were a real movie worthy of the respect of its fans.”
