Sky New Zealand has expanded its partnership with Sony Pictures Television, securing a multi-year first-run series and extending the deal that will see Sony content land on Sky and streamer NEON for the first time after theatrical and home entertainment slots.
The deal includes The Lady, a four-part drama about the rise and fall of former royal dresser Jane Andrews, who enters Buckingham Palace as Sarah Ferguson’s entourage until a murder unravels her life. Later this year, American Hostage, a 1970s psychological thriller in which Jon Hamm plays Fred Heckman, an Indianapolis radio reporter at the center of the 63-hour hostage crisis, is scheduled for release.
Films set to come to Sky include The Materialist, 28 Years Later, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, Karate Kid: Legends, Caught Stealing and the Karate Kid series including Anaconda.
Sky will continue to be home to the Outlander universe, which has proven to be one of the service’s best-performing franchises. The final season of Outlander will end on March 7, and Outlander: Blood of My Blood will return for a second season.
The partnership further strengthens Sky and NEON’s libraries, adding hundreds of hours of programming including Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul (both exclusive to Sky and NEON), The Tudors, Dawson’s Creek and SWAT plus the addition of Community (exclusive to Sky).
Fiona Murray, Sky’s head of entertainment, said: “This deal deepens one of our valuable studio relationships and brings further stability and scale to our premium drama and film offering.”
Adam Herr, Sony Pictures Television’s senior vice president of distribution for Asia Pacific, supported the deal, which builds on a long-standing and successful relationship. “Sky has been a valued collaborator for many years and this new agreement reflects the strength of our partnership and our shared ambition to bring premium, must-see TV and film to audiences across the country.”
The expansion of the Sony deal follows last month’s announcement that Sky had entered into an exclusive content partnership with Paramount Global Content Distribution.
