During Hearthstone Spotlight 2026, which aired earlier this morning, developers revealed a new era for Hearthstone with the upcoming release of the game’s epic new expansion.
You can watch the full Spotlight event below.
Set to launch on March 18, 2026, Hearthstone: Cataclysm is a reimagining of World of Warcraft’s iconic 2010 expansion of the same name, but with a major twist to the story that will have the heroes of Azeroth shaking in the slot’s best boots.
This is a bold move that speaks to the team’s ambitious vision to take Hearthstone, now in its 12th year, to new heights.
After the end of Hearthstone’s 31-stage expansion, Across the Timeways, Murozondo brought an alternate version of Deathwing the Destroyer into the Hearthstone world, further disrupting the Timeways.
In Hearthstone: Cataclysm, this version of Deathwing wins the effort to reduce Azeroth to ashes, and it’s up to players to help Chromie and Dragonflight rally the heroes of time from across Hearthstone’s history to defeat the most powerful Deathwing ever known.
Gameplay features
As well as a new story arc, Hearthstone: Cataclysm adds a slew of new cards, as well as new and returning fan-favorite mechanics and gameplay features.
Colossals return to Hearthstone
Originally introduced in the 2022 expansion Voyage to the Sunket City, Colossal is a giant minion that can summon one or more additional minions as you play. In Hearthstone: Cataclysm, each class has its own Colossal, six of whom are Deathwing’s lieutenants. By choosing a class that matches Deathwing’s lieutenant, players can experience the war on Azeroth from behind enemy lines.
“Herald” is a new keyword used by classes that work with Deathwing’s lieutenants.
For classes aligned with Dragonflights, “Shatter” is a new keyword that splits cards with this keyword into two halves when drawn. This allows players to cast cards separately or recombine the halves for double power and value.
Victory and the Last Stand is a class spell card featuring the class’ unique Hero of Time, depicting them either claiming victory or making a last heroic stand against Deathwing and his forces.
Hearthstone is easy to pick up, whether you’re a veteran card game player or not. Also, if you want to check out the Cataclysm expansion coming next month, it’s free to play on mobile and PC. This game also has a lot of tutorials. You can learn more about the basics of Hearthstone here.
