Just two years after sweeping the AACTA Awards with their feature debut, Talk to Me, Danny and Michael Philippou have done it again, taking home 10 trophies, including Best Picture, for their follow-up, Bring Her Back.

Causeway Films’ horror film, which dominated Wednesday’s Industry Gala, picked up yet another top honor at tonight’s main ceremony, plus three gongs, including Best Director and Best Actress for Sally Hawkins.

The film’s producers, Sam Jennings and Christina Seiton, were further recognized with the Byron Kennedy Award, which honors an individual or organization whose work “exemplifies innovation, vision, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”

Best Actor went to Richard Roxburgh for his role as Peter Greste in “The Correspondent,” Best Supporting Actor went to the late Julian McMahon for “The Surfer,” and Best Supporting Actress went to Deborah Mailman for “Kangaroo.”

At the Industry Gala Awards earlier this week, Prime Video’s The Narrow Road to the Deep North was TV’s absolute favorite, winning seven gongs. Tonight’s production added two more awards, including Best Actor for Jacob Elordi and Best Supporting Actress for Heather Mitchell, making it the most awarded television project overall. However, it was upset that Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar won in the Best Miniseries category.

ABC’s The Newsreader continues its AACTA winning streak with its third win for Best Drama Series. This was one of four awards for the show’s third and final season, with Anna Torv winning Best Actress, Daniel Henshall Best Supporting Actor, and Michael Lucas Best Original Screenplay.

The award for Best Documentary went to Trisha Morton-Thomas and Maggie Miles’ Journey Home, David Gulpilil, making it the second AACTA award after David Bridie won Best Original Music in a Documentary earlier this week.

The night also saw director Bruce Beresford’s 50-year career celebrated at the Longford Lyell Awards, and Sarah Snook won the Trailblazer Award, which recognizes Australian creators who are forging an influential path in the global industry. The Brian Walsh Award, which recognizes emerging talent, went to Claire Hughes, star of ABC’s Ladies in Black and Stan’s Ten Pound Poms.
