The 2025 Golden Globe nominations have been announced, celebrating diverse talent in film and television with record-breaking nods, returning favorites, and a few surprises.
On the film side, Emilia Perez leads the pack. The Jacques Audiard-directed Netflix musical broke the record for a film in the musical or comedy category with a whopping 10 nominations, beating last year’s record holder Barbie. Nominations include Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Acting for Carla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez.
Other film industry heavyweights are close behind. Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” starring Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, received seven nominations, while “Conclave,” a tense drama centered on the papal election, won six. Movies like Anora and Substance also made headlines, each receiving five nominations.
Television also had its moments of brilliance, with “The Bear” receiving five nominations, making it the top TV contender. Fan favorites “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shogun” continued their awards season momentum with four nods each.
Netflix dominated overall, with 26 nominations across film and television, with 13 nods for film and 23 for television. A24 shines in the movies category with 12 mentions, while HBO/Max gets 14 mentions in the TV category.
This year’s Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by stand-up comedian Nikki Glazer, with Viola Davis set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Ted Danson the Carol Burnett Award.
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 5, 2025.
